Flesh & Bone Study #13 (Hanging Shell) Wool Sculpture

$2,500.00

Flesh & Bone Study #13 (Amorphous), wool, 13 x 5.25 x 4.5 inches, 2017

This one-of-a-kind sculpture is from the ‘Flesh & Bone’ body of work, a series of small studies and human-sized sculptures that combine and reference parts of the body, from soft weighty folds of flesh to the stripped down abstract architecture of bones. The features of each extreme—rigid, angular edges and plump creases and dimples—blend into each other in a sort of logic that develops as I construct the piece and imagine the forces acting upon it.

I created this sculpture by compressing, tangling, and shaping loose fibers into felt using hand-held felting needles. This piece is robust, yet it would be best displayed under a glass dome or in a case to prevent dust.
