In my studio practice I’m playful, curious, and experimental in my approach to subjects that can be heavy and yet also absurd.

When you visit my open studio you’ll see that I’m focusing on sculptures and stitched wall pieces that play with themes of softness, touch, consent, and how appearances can be deceiving. I continue to explore the way the color pink works, both physically in my bounced color pieces, and psychologically as a hue loaded with personal and varied associations.

I strive to use beauty and exquisite craftsmanship to create objects that trigger a sense of wonder, curiosity, and some healthy discomfort.

I’m curious about hierarchies of value associated with traditional ideas of femininity. The qualities that historically tend to be pushed on girls and women - be nice, be quiet, be accommodating - have a limiting and controlling effect. In my work (and in my life) I’m pushing against those ideas but cloaking them in pretty and approachable skins.

What IS Open Studios? What can you expect?


Open Studios is an event in which visual artists invite the public to visit their workspaces (or temporary workspaces, in this case) in person. Why would you want to do that?

  • to get a behind-the-scenes look at how and where art is created

  • to learn more about the artist and why they make what they make with their specific tools and materials

  • to purchase original art, prints, and gifts directly from the person who made them

  • to sign up for classes and workshops

A visit to my studio offers a glimpse into the curiosity (or perhaps obsessions) that drive me to make weird and beautiful things. You’ll see a ‘cabinet of curiosities’ of sorts, with specimens from real life (bones, seed pods, plants, metal bits) intermingled with specimens I shape from wool and felt. I’m very happy to talk about and demonstrate the techniques I use: stabbing at wool with specialized felting needles, poking it through paper to make ‘wool drawings,’ and stitching thick, flat industrial felt into dimensional objects. I love to share my process through public talks, workshops, and classes as well.
