In the Glow: Clutch

Clutch, wool, 6 x 8.5 x 8.5 inches, 2025 (glass dome, 10 x 10 x 10, included)

This sculpture plays with bounced light and color as well as the way something unfamiliar can be alluring yet disturbing. The form suggests comfort and order with its regular and rounded near-symmetry, yet the off-kilter position and visceral puckering center suggest disorder and change. The title 'Clutch' alludes to both the noun meaning 'a group of eggs' or the verb - 'to grasp'.

I created this sculpture by compressing, tangling, and shaping loose fibers into felt using hand-held felting needles.
